Non-Profit Site Design

The Project

A non-profit performing arts  organization wanted to redesign their site for the upcoming season. Time was an issue for the customer as advance ticket sales were needed.

With the new site design, there was a 50% jump in page views and 70% jump in online ticket sales. The customer was very pleased with this outcome.

The Process

The most important issue for the customer was to make the purchase of tickets quick and painless. They needed a CMS to house the site that the festival team could update easily with pristine results.

After competitive research, the following findings were presented to the client:

  • connect links directly to ticket purchasing site (no intermediary page)
  • UX wireframe and visual design iterations for review
  • build the site in WordPress CMS for ease of updating
  • make use of and promote original photos throughout site

The customer’s requirements included:

  • ability to edit and update text and images
  • subscribe button/link
  • rotating banner on homepage
  • embed YouTube videos on site pages

User Insights

User testing was performed by the festival team and a few subscribers. A mock page with navigation links, ticketing site links and a few interior pages, was hosted online for testing purposes. Users were asked to locate certain pages listed in the navigation bar, move to various pages and test links. Once users finished testing, they were invited to submit a feedback form.

The feedback revealed that 100% of users found the navigation intuitive and easy to use, while 90% found that some text links were a little small and hard to read or find. 100% also liked the overall site design.

Deliverables

The customer signed-off on a final UX and visual iteration and the site was built out. QA of all links, especially links to purchase tickets, was completed by the festival staff.  Training sessions were set up for the staff on how to use the WordPress CMS. The new site launched ahead of time for ticket sales.

Original, high quality photos added to the visual experience throughout the site. The customer was pleased with the site design and ensuing ticket sales, with a 70% increase in sales from the previous years.
